The Candidate Program
Three-week intensives that up-skill backend, frontend, and mobile developers through real project work — PHP/Laravel, mobile development, QA, and the RWBuild development process. The Candidate Program is also a placement engine: top performers earn paid internships on RWBuild teams, and tracked graduates have moved into industry roles across Kigali at a 90%+ rate.
The program pairs junior "candidate" developers with senior engineers — including two-decade US senior developers brought to Kigali specifically for these workshops — and connects directly to the Candidate.rw platform.
Annual
The RWBuild Code Summit
Our flagship developer conference has convened Kigali’s software community since 2021 — guiding 50+ developers at a time through multi-week training in backend and frontend development, QA, machine learning, and the business of software. Past summits placed ten participants into paid Candidate Program internships.
Summits are delivered with partners across government and the ecosystem: GIZ as summit partner and sponsor, government authorities speaking on national data regulations and public APIs, speakers from universities and international industry, and Kigali’s own resident developer community. Sessions have ranged from proper QA testing to investor pitching for developer-entrepreneurs.
Alongside the summit, year-round Startup Founder Talks and weekly mentorship and code review keep the community sharp between the big events.
